Treating Injuries

In certain circumstances rotator cuffs injuries require surgery. Although most people recover within 4 months it can take up to a year and a half. Once an injury has occurred there is the possibility for re injury. Surgery is not recommended for children and young adults with this type of injury. So the goal for swimmers is prevention.


"Pilates is Prevention"


When suffering form a rotator cuff injury with or without surgery Pilates is exercise that can be performed with pain free modifications while recovering to help regain strength and flexibility.

When Rotator Cuff Surgery is Recommended:

· No pain improvement with nonsurgical methods

· Very active and use your arms for overhead work or sports.

· Symptoms have lasted 6 to 12 months.

· Significant weakness or loss of function in your shoulder

· Tear is a result of a recent acute injury.
